Maybe they are sponsored by the BBQ Rib industry these days and need to feature the product more prominently

I remember when watching the Miss America competition was something to look forward to. I’m not sure when its airing this year, but I’ve seen pictures from the contest and oh my god, what has happened to America? Let’s not even talk about the lack of variety here (although Miss Minnesota was a blue-eyed blonde again). Ever since the recent dropping of the contest by ABC, I’m amazed they were able to stage the contest, since they apparently can’t afford to feed the contestants anymore.

Cases in point, Miss Georgia:

And Miss South Carolina:

Now, I understand that society is harsh on the ladies, but sheesh. Maybe someone should tell the Miss America organization that the reason is watching their “pagent” anymore is because nobody likes to look at starving people. I mean these chicks make the airbrushed women of Maxim look like poster children for gluttony.

More pictures here, for the morbidly curious.

This weekend my theater company is opening a new American translation of Tartuffe. Those of you in the Chicago area should all come down in the next few weeks to see it. But, I realize that few of you are around these parts. Hopefully I’ll have interesting stories from the opening night fete on Monday.

I'm glad you're one of those enlightened males who don't feel like concentration camp victims are attractive. The women in Maxim are definitely better.

For me, the most troubling thing was that some of them....well, just aren't attractive. And not just in a subjective I-prefer-brunettes kind of way - in a I-think-we-can-all-agree-that-there-are-objective-standards-of-beauty kind of way. Go to www.missamerica.org and scroll through the publicity photos until you get to Miss NH, Miss WY and Miss DE. Maybe they sing beautifully or really, really, REALLY want to see peace in the Middle East, but you just can't convince me that I couldn't visit Corcord, Cheyenne, or Dover and find a more attractive woman walking down the street in 3 minutes.

Even when I was young and in better shape, I never had the rib-thing going. That's just ugly.

Break a leg on Tartuffe! Wish I was in Chicago to see it. Instead, I'm in St. Louis working on Jesus Christ Superstar costumes. I'm not even involved in the play. The costumer ran out of time and needed help. It's all good, though, because I like to sew for theatre.

Oh, I love Jesus Christ Superstar. Now I have the song in my head.

That reminds me of the opening scene for Hit-n-Run Theater we did back in college, parodying that number by having averyone arodingly following a stuffed Pooh bear. Jesus Christ Pooh-perstar.

Ah, good times...
