"Now serving number 30,125..."

After three years of fandom and overspending on tickets, I’ve finally figured out how to buy season tickets for the Cubs on their website. With pride I went to buy some, when (naturally) I found that there was a waiting list. This, in itself, didn’t really surprise me. But once I added myself, I discovered that I was currently in 30,125th place. So, it’ll probably be years before I actually am presented with the option of actually buying them. By that point I’ll either be moved away, too busy to come, or dead.

But I’m still going to leave my name on the list, if for no other reason than it gives me a sense of belonging to a close-knit group of 30,000+ fellow travelers. I’m going to add my current place in line to the template, so you can all follow along with me as I journey though the line. I’ll update it regularly as I move up.

Although, that means I’ll have to keep blogging until I move away, get too busy, or die. Oh well, a little blog-motivation never hurt anyone, right?

My Wii should arrive tomorrow! Of course, I won’t be at home to pick it up, and will probably have to drive out to the middle of nowhere tomorrow night in order to pick it up at the FedEx hub. But in joyful anticipation of it’s arrival I cancelled my gym membership today. Not like I had actually *gone* to the gym in about 8 months or so*, but now that I know I’ve got another source of exercise pending, I don’t feel guilty about cancelling and saving the extra $35 a month. Everybody wins!

* It is simply so far out of the way that it’s a pain in the tukkus to actually get there. And then when I do show up it’s full of people from work, most of whom I have no interest in seeing in spandex/gym clothes/the locker room.

A professor in my dept is on a similar waiting list for the Packers, and I think he's in a similar tens-of-thousands away from the-top position. He stopped updating it in 2002, when only four people from the list were given the chance to buy tickets.

Oh, I guess I need to use the other tags.

Wow! I didn't realize waiting lists could be so long! How much trouble was it before? Wouldn't it be easier to go to the ticket window?

Wii!

This is unrelated to this post, but I would just like to proclaim that I was right to be skeptical about that claim that the gummint was telling park rangers at the Grand Canyon not to talk about the age of the Grand Canyon: http://www.skeptic.com/eskeptic/07-01-17.html

This article also says the book about the Genesis version of the creation is sold in the same section of the bookstore that has books on Hopi creation myths and whatnot, too.
