I am a media king/queenmaker!

For a few years now I have been developing a theory that the best way for someone to become famous is to become my friend. I have this weird tendency for people I know to be famous writers, artists, actors, or other media darlings. For instance we all know about my friend the novelist, my friend and his trivia show, my friend the playwright, my friend the journalist, the GF*, and my friend the Arby's fishnet girl. [EDIT: *and* my friend the traffic reporter/sidekick on the 100.3 FM morning show in Chicago]

Well over lunch yesterday I found I have another one. Sitting in the restaurant eating my pad thai I looked up to see another old friend of mine on the television! It turns out that I went to high school with Mary Jo Mitchell who is now a sports reporter for CNN Headline News.

And on top of that, a guy that I used to work with at my job is now a fantasy sports reporter for Yahoo sports. This of course, is the same guy I whomped in my fantasy football league. Go figure.

* She's an award-winning screenwriter and former child star.

That Mary Jo looks like she's from Minnesota! I also have a H.S. media connection - I went to high school (and junior high, and elementary school, and played basketball with) Almanac's Mary Lahammer (http://tpt.org/aatc/marys_page). Who, notably, was not on the newspaper staff. On that newspaper staff, however, was one of those Northwestern journalism students who got some guy off of death row. And a woman who's now a PR rep for famous fashion designers (e.g. Diane Von Furstenburg). Making getting a Ph.D. look positively slackerish.

Hey! I have a high school media connection, too! I went to a high school...and I'm a reporter! Also, I know a lot of reporters! Unfortunately, most of them are not famous. And the ones that are famous are only famous if you're an incredibly huge NPR dork.

Spice - Yeah, she *totally* looks like a Minnesotan. Of course, when I knew her she was a brunette.

Towwas - They're probably famous to me then. Remember, *I* was part of the audience who listened to your killer NPR story on elephants...

Isolde - Yeah, I really can't help it. But don't worry, I only try to use this power for good and not for evil. :)

What do you plan to turn all of us into? Not famous bloggers, I hope - I don't think I want that kind of distinction. I'd like to be the first person to climb something if you could use your powers to arrange that.

Maybe you could use your super-power to make my son into a successful actor since he's decided that he's going to major in theatre. I'm beggin' ya!

Wasn't her name like Mary Jo Perino or something? And didn't she used to be brunette???

Wow that's crazy.

But maybe its ME that makes people famous and you are going to be one of them some day...er wait, was I thinking infamous.

Hey and thanks for the vote of confidence in my parenting skills. ;)
